Terms of Use
These Website Terms of Use govern your access to and use of OpenRF Note, including all technical notes, frequency charts, code samples, and features.
1. Acceptance of Terms
Welcome to OpenRF Note (“OpenRF Note,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of openrfnote.com and any pages, technical notes, reference tables, code samples, or features available through the website.
By accessing or using the website, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the website.
2. Privacy Policy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information. Please review it at: openrfnote.com/privacy. By using the website, you acknowledge that you have reviewed our Privacy Policy.
3. Website Use Only (Not Engineering or Legal Advice)
The website is provided strictly for general educational, hobbyist, and RF engineering reference. All frequency charts, FCC Part 15 summaries, hardware pinouts, antenna calculations, and code snippets are general information only and do not constitute professional engineering advice, telecommunications compliance testing, or legal counsel.
Submitting a contact form, sending an email, or communicating through the website does not create a professional consulting, client, or attorney-client relationship. You remain solely responsible for ensuring your own hardware builds and transmissions comply with all applicable local, federal, and international radio laws.
4. No Emergency or Safety Services
Public website contact forms, email addresses, and communication channels on this site are not monitored for emergency communications, urgent safety inquiries, or public safety dispatch. In any emergency, contact your local emergency services (e.g. 911 in the United States) through standard emergency channels.
5. RF Engineering & Diagnostics Only (Strict Anti-Exploit Policy)
OpenRF Note is strictly a non-offensive radio frequency engineering and diagnostic notebook. You agree not to use content, schematics, firmware configurations, or packet captures found on this website to:
- Conduct intentional radio frequency jamming, signal interference, or wireless denial-of-service / deauthentication attacks.
- Attempt unauthorized access to protected wireless networks, replay attacks on secure locks, or defeating physical or electronic access controls.
- Transmit on unauthorized frequencies or exceed statutory radiated power (EIRP) limits governed by FCC 47 CFR Part 15 or international regulatory equivalents.
All wireless diagnostic techniques covered on this site are intended exclusively for passive bench testing, measuring ambient noise floors, and mapping authorized coverage zones.
6. Eligibility
The website is intended for general audiences. By using the website, you represent that you are at least 18 years old or are accessing the website under the supervision of a parent, legal guardian, or authorized representative.
7. Acceptable Use
You may use the website only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to:
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to website servers, hosting environments, user sessions, or backend edge infrastructure.
- Interfere with, disrupt, overload, or degrade the availability or performance of the website.
- Introduce malware, malicious scripts, or harmful code.
- Use automated scrapers, crawlers, or extraction tools in an abusive manner that bypasses rate limits or impairs site operation.
- Submit false, abusive, defamatory, or fraudulent messages through our contact form.
We reserve the right to restrict, block, or terminate access to the website if we believe a user has violated these Terms or creates risk for the site or other users.
8. Security Research & Testing
Do not perform automated vulnerability scanning, penetration testing, exploit verification, or denial-of-service testing against the website or its edge hosting network without prior written authorization.
If you believe you have discovered a security vulnerability or misconfiguration on the website, please report it promptly through our contact form or by email at info@openrfnote.com without publicly disclosing the issue or accessing user data.
9. Website Content & Intellectual Property
The website design, layout, diagrams, illustrations, and original text are owned by OpenRF Note or used with permission and are protected by copyright and intellectual property laws.
You may view and reference website content for your personal, educational, and non-commercial study. Open-source firmware configs, hardware wiring diagrams, and code snippets are licensed under their respective permissive open-source licenses where indicated.
10. Information You Submit & Feedback
If you submit messages, technical errata, or suggestions through the website, you are responsible for ensuring that the information is accurate and that you have the right to provide it. Do not submit sensitive passwords, private cryptographic keys, or confidential trade secrets.
If you provide technical corrections, feedback, or suggestions about our notes, you grant OpenRF Note a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, incorporate, and publish that feedback to improve the notebook.
11. Supporter Memberships & Patreon Early Access
The website does not directly process payments, store credit card numbers, or bill subscriptions. Optional memberships that fund testing hardware and hosting are handled through the Patreon campaign shared with WSNY332 under Patreon’s terms and conditions.
Supporters who log in via Patreon receive early access to designated draft field notes during their preview window. Every early-access entry becomes permanently and freely public on its scheduled publication date.
12. Third-Party Links & Tools
This site includes links to third-party websites and repositories (such as the FCC eCFR, Semtech/TI silicon datasheets, and GitHub). These external sites are not controlled by OpenRF Note. We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, availability, or privacy practices of external resources.
13. Disclaimer of Warranties
The website is provided on an “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE” basis without warranties of any kind.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, OpenRF Note disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, and uninterrupted operation. 14. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, OpenRF Note and its author/operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the website or hardware builds based on site materials.
In no event will our total aggregate liability for claims arising out of or related to the website exceed one hundred dollars ($100).
15. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless OpenRF Note and its author/operators from and against any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to your use of the website, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of applicable radio regulations or the rights of any third party.
